from my bookshelf.

over my vacation i was really able to dig in 
to one of the best books i've read in ages : 

it was timely for the month of independence day, as it is basically the "real" story of the founding of the americas. we've covered the norse, native americans, spanish conquistadors, and everything pre-mayflower pilgrims {you know, the only stuff we were taught in school}.

the author retraced the steps of these explorers and tried to experience some of the same things they faced hundreds of years ago. fascinating, educational, and absolutely hilarious.
