tahoe.

we just spent a lovely weekend in lake tahoe.

we were ready for snow, irish coffee, and laying by a fireplace.  but, ya know, 80 degrees and cold beer is good too.

favorite place no. 2 : alamo square

alamo square just makes me want to grab danny tanner and uncle jesse and frolic toward the old victorians - how about you?

{everywhere you look (everywhere) there's a heart (there's a heart), a hand to hold on to...}

it is also the perfect place for a sunny day picnic, complete with not-quite-ripe watermelon (still amazing) and orange fedoras.

i also highly recommend the company of kelly stew and misha.  i might let you borrow them for your own picnic (if you ask nicely).

at 6:30pm...

the natural light in our apartment happens to be gorgeous!

good thing i have a roommate who i can force into a pre-dinner photo shoot.

Sunday, March 22, 2009

i made breakfast seven times today.

but thankfully, did not eat it 7 times.  check out the results of my breakfast shoot for photo class:

let me tell you...shooting overhead in natural light in your apartment kitchen is way harder than you might imagine.  especially when the sun kept sneaking behind the clouds every time i was about to shoot.  the lighting factor plus burned bagels, not-quite-all-the-way-hardboiled eggs, and the intense smell of bacon really made it quite the morning.

check out my awesome pro setup (um...and professional mess) i had going on...

gifts from oz.

one of dearest friends is miss ping, my former co-worker and general partner in crime from my days in london.  around the same time that i moved back to the US, ping moved back to australia.  we keep in touch (aided by facebook, these days) and lately have started the best gift exchange.

{ at the england vs. australia rugby match @ twickenham, outside london.  2005 }

ping desperately wanted the official obama inauguration poster, which could only be purchased by a US citizen with a US address, as it's technically a campaign contribution.  i bought 2 of these and shipped them off to australia last month (funny to me that it's such a hot commodity there!). ping asked if she could pay me, and i decided that there is something out better than money : PROMITE!

now, if you've tried it, you'll know this salty, amazing spread is not like marmite or vegemite...it is simply...bliss.  and incredibly hard to find in the US.  so i asked for a jar in return, and look at what showed up on my doorstep yesterday:

not one, but THREE jars!  and some delicious strawberry freddos and caramel koalas (aussie delicacies, yes?)

i think i got the better end of this deal.  mmm.

model friends : misha

misha lent me her beautiful face last weekend to do some headshot practice...in the wind, rain, and mud at alta plaza park. hah. despite the crappy weather, her pictures turned out great! thanks mish. :)

dear sf.

thank you for the sunny days this week.  it makes it possible for my favorite ludicrous accessory to become a part of my life again.

favorite place no. 1 : crown & crumpet

nestled in the heart of ghirardelli square is a teensy gem called crown & crumpet.

c&c is a tea house; charming, sweet, girly, and...pink.  like, sprinkled-with-fairy-dust-PINK.

for some reason, i absolutely adore this place.

the tea selection is ridiculous, first of all, and i am MUCH more of a coffee person.  my absolute fave is the parisian blend, which is wafting with vanilla-y goodness.

after you order your tea, it shows up with an individual pot for each person, complete with a sweet tea cozy.  the sugar cubes are PINK stars and hearts (are you gagging yet?), and the tables and walls are lined with vintage florals.

and, of course, you can wear pretty frocks and pearls and act like fools.  win/win situation.

so, the next time you're in the mood for dress-up and/or delicious tea, crown & crumpet has you covered...{with sugar}.

lucky...

to have a roommate who doesn't mind leaping across chestnut street for my shutter speed assignments.

photo class.

a few weeks ago i began taking photography classes from the oh-so-talented nicole hill gerulat.  i recently purchased a canon rebel and needed to know exactly what to do with it, other than, like, turning it on and staring at all the scary dials.

yesterday we did a little shoot at alta plaza park with our darling model ali to practice head shots.
she's a doll, right?  unfortunately the temperature outside in the early morning was roughly -38 degrees (or whatever), so those smiles quickly gave way to...

tee hee.  still a cutie though.

even nicole got in on the modeling action...
fab!
