i quite enjoy a good holiday tradition {i believe this stems from my mother, who would decorate our house from top to bottom for every holiday...i'm talking valentine's decor in the bathrooms, etc}.

however, living in the city can make any spur of the moment decorating a little tough. we wanted to carve pumpkins last night, and the only place that had them was the marina safeway. and i use that term "had them" loosely, as they had approximately 8 banged-up, sad little pumpkins.

i picked the "cutest" one they had {see pic}, and obviously cody went for the most mangled, scarred pumpkin in the bunch {like charlie brown's christmas tree, i guess}.

i also don't receive the newspaper, so we had to cover my floor in pottery barn {and random clothing} catalogues.

some of us were more "intense" about this process than others. ahem.

our end results. cody ended up carving THREE faces into his, but this was my fave. amazing.

have a very happy and safe halloween!
i'll be posting lots of fun costume pics over the weekend.

a theme.

we're gonna decree that it is
junk food photo week
on this lil blog.

but really, how cute are my parents for sending the most GINORMOUS halloween-themed popcorn factory tin monstrosity to my office? so fun. popcorn for breakfast every day.

candy alert!

reason #842 why i love halloween : candy.

my fave is the tootsie roll variety pack that is only out in october {ed note: this is solely in my head that it is limited-edition, as i'm sure that nowadays, with y'know, the internet, i could get this year-round}.

however, i do not care about the brown tootsie rolls, nor the pops, nor the dots, but solely...flavored tootsie rolls!

shown in order of preference, natch:

{how much fun is photographing candy? new hobby.}

what's your fave?

weird news of the day.

apparently NBC Bay Area has decided that my friends and i should be the faces of their new iphone app:

we started getting phone calls from people watching sunday night football last week saying that we were on tv, and my friend taylor took the above picture of her tv screen.

so weird. are they allowed to this?? i'm calling my lawyers {jk...kinda}.

pictures of my two favorite parts of this past hectic week:

{playing san francisco map trivia games with stew and lauren - so unexpectedly hilarious}

{singing along to johnny cash & baking chocolate chip cookies with cody for our movie night}

have a happy weekend!

in a nutshell.

there was some good in my day {forgot my car was in 2-hour parking but didn't get a ticket, even after 4 hours!}...

then some bad in my day {pulling away from that parking spot, feeling victorious, i apparently crept out too far at a stop sign and got pulled over AND ticketed...REALLY}...

and then some great in my day : i got a promotion! woo. this was a welcome surprise, especially with my insane tour schedule right now. usually things slow down in fall, but with the addition of my newest tour {one word: GAGA}, i will be going like crazy for awhile. my current roster:

{lady gaga, beyonce, dane cook, celtic thunder, bob dylan, john legend}

queen of hearts.

those who know me well are aware that i am obsessed with:
ridiculous costumes
historical and/or fairy tale figures
the upcoming tim burton's alice in wonderland

so, cue me as rachel zoe {I DIED} when i saw this little girl's handmade costume on grosgrain fabulous, based off of tim burton's queen of hearts {pictured on left}.

how ridiculously cool is that?

i wish i was six so i could wear this.

many more pictures {including a sweet alice costume} here.

i realized this evening that i had some really cute pics of my various cousins {and their cousins} just sitting on my memory card waiting to be uploaded. i got to see these darlings in san jose for little asher's 2nd birthday.

samara and elan - don't they look related?

almost the whole crew - bday boy was eating the pinata candy!

shake it like a...

lately it seems that the internet is abuzz about
the ShakeItPhoto app for the iphone.

it makes your ordinary iphone pics into cute lil polaroid-style.

i pretty much use this every day, just for fun
{and you even shake your phone to develop the pic}...

unlike SOME apps i buy {i'm looking at you, urban spoon.}

highly enjoyable!

fun and free {and yummy}.

i learned something fun a couple weeks ago that i feel i should bestow upon my friends : did you know that williams-sonoma offers cooking technique classes in their stores every sunday at 10am?

i attended fall baking this weekend {bonus, there is a w-s on my street!} and we made some scrumptious treats, including these sweet apple-shaped individual pies.

in case you need some more reasons to go:
- they are themed for the season {holiday hors d'oeuvres, thanksgiving desserts, etc}
and/or practical {knife skills},
- they involve tasting delicious food,
- you receive packets to take home full of yummy recipes,
- their instructors are not only cooks, but a food stylists, so you learn to make things pretty,
- and they are free!

check their store events page for the schedule.

{image on the left by me, on the right from the w-s site}

i meant to post some of this super sweet pics of my niece, lily, taken by one of my sister's best friends, the oh-so-talented karen hendrix {of firefly images}.

aren't they sweet?

do you remember this book?

substitute day for week and here i am.

so much work, so much stress, so little time to play!
{thank the lord for glee - the brightest spot of my weeknights.}

i promise i'll post something joyful tomorrow. for now i'm off to collapse onto my bed and order some dinner - sometimes a girl needs some good takeout.

tomorrow is friday...tomorrow is friday...tomorrow is friday!

this morning design*sponge had a great article about the history of rococo style, which linked to this print:

ob-sessed. i need this! so cute.

p.s. they also did a feature on my photo teacher nicole's cute sf apartment. fun!

pumpkin patch.

oh boy, do i love fall.

love the crisp air, halloween, and the anticipation of so many fun family holidays around the corner.

danelle and i went to a great pumpkin patch and explored the cornfields and gorgeous scenery. she is the happiest model ever - it is literally not possible for her to look serious {i have the ridiculously funny outtakes to prove it}. what a fun day...

i've been all over northern california this weekend.
so, so happy to be on my couch watching the premiere of the new
dallas cowboys cheerleaders: making the team.
{guiltiest pleasure ever that started right after my sister gave birth to lily and we would lay on the couch all day and cuddle her while we watched - hilarious.}

i had such a great girly saturday with danelle, including a cute pumpkin patch photo shoot that i'll post tomorrow. i am currently pretending these pictures from vogue would have been us in the 20's...obsessed!

and, i just updated the links over my sidebar with some newly-discovered blogs that i love. i think this list could grow to have 500 items pretty soon...

any exciting plans this weekend?

i'm heading to sacramento tomorrow for some time with my bestie and my hairstylist {two of my faves} and then having some fun family time in san jose on sunday.

whatever you do, enjoy it!

{pic from the misha shoot}

twenty years ago today...

i was attending a brownie meeting.
{or having my mug shot taken, you decide}

how funny/scary is that?? 2 whole decades.

what were YOU doing then?

the hidden seed.

i apologize for the light posting - this work week has been an utter blur of stress and long hours.

however, a lovely calm in this storm is a new blog i've discovered called the hidden seed. the author, elsita, posts her gorgeous outfits that all look straight out of an anthropologie catalogue. love the silhouettes!

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

selfies galore!

nicole selected one of my images as a finalist for her self-portrait challenge! how fun is that. there were tons of great ones submitted...

...but my fave has to be ryan hoffman's hilarious pic. isn't it awesome??
go see all of them and vote here!

side effects.

lately i have noticed a side effect from my lovely photo classes :
i cannot eat pretty food.

or i should correct that to add "like a normal person", as I can and do - but it is only after photographing it about 50 times and making sure i practice those sweet food photo/tabletop skills. this is fun for me, frustrating for anyone else who thinks they might be sharing that cupcake with me. mmm.

Saturday, October 3, 2009

home tour.

i spent the day in a 14 million dollar mansion
showing people hidden refrigerators, secret elevators, tiffany skylights and a 146" television.

if for some reason you're in sf and see this today, RUN to broderick & pacific to look at these amazing, historic homes. they are absolutely insane {and you'll benefit a GREAT cause}!

mr. penny

last night we attended our last giants game of the year {which...what on earth will we do with our weeknights now??} and were gifted the most amazing seats right next to the bullpen.

i made a lil animation of mr. pitcher brad penny warming up pre-game - pretty fun.
