tales of the city.

one of my favorite books i have EVER read
is armistead maupin's tales of the city.

i feel like when you move to san francisco, you should be handed this book and a goodie basket of good coffee, napa wine, and perhaps a scarf for the freezing summer days. you will just want to curl up by the fire and keep reading {or in my case, finish in one day at the pool in mykonos}.

his writing SO perfectly captures the neighborhoods, the feelings, and the characters that inhabit this crazy place. if you live in the city, PLEASE read this {or borrow mine!} and laugh along with the familiarity. and if you don't live here, you should still read, and you'll get to know how lucky we sf-dwellers are. :)

joke face.

this makes me laugh so hard.
i have the cutest niece {especially right after a nap with crazy hair}!

we saw this face alllll weekend in tahoe. usually right after a little voice said "auntie, can i tell you a joke?" so classic.

maternity photoshoot: ashley {+ brad}

it's totally baby fever in my life right now...my best friend just had a baby, my sister is pregnant, and i just did a maternity shoot in dolores park with a gorgeous mama-to-be!

ashley and her husband brad fell in love as neighbors in venice beach. these two are so fun and silly, and ashley brought her skateboard {from those socal days!} so we incorporated that into some shots. pretty sure her son will someday think she's a ridiculously cool mom!

we had a ton of fun in the playground area, despite the chilly temps.
after some swinging and an attempt at the monkey bars {not pictured...ha}, the cute couple got a little more dressed up and we did some more traditional shots.

this is from brad's series called "let's re-enact our courtship." i might post the whole thing because they are so darn cute. i think this is around the first date. ;)

so excited for these two! congrats, ashley + brad.

amazing how that works...

remember this from my last post?
well...that belly has turned into THIS beautiful girl!

welcome to little miss reese delaney clark! i love her already.
{and love her mom for being so tough and dad for keeping auntie kelly updated with text messages all day/night!}

she is lucky to have such awesome parents...can't wait to meet her.

jackie + brian = wedding fun!

i had a crazy busy weekend, including hustling over to the gorgeous david girard winery in placerville for jackie + brian's beautiful wedding.

thank goodness for these parasols - it was HOT! {a welcome change from sf, may i add.}

good thing they had corndogs on the menu for those pregnant gals! haha.
our table had some time to kill while we waited for the buffet...so it was selfie time. jenny {center} or ryan {semi-toothless...he's a football coach...bottom right} win i think.
jackie was a STUNNING bride, and her little sister has turned into a mini-me. it was really crazy for those of us who have known jacks for 13+ years!

how ridiculous are these cupcakes? red velvet, pb&j, apple cinnamon and vanilla. mmm.

then it was time to dance the night away...
slash, do an impromptu photoshoot outside.

jenny + dan are a super boring couple, can't you tell?
and julie, the brave 9+ months pregnant (!) matron of honor (!!) is currently IN LABOR as i type this. i am freaking out. she had pretty good timing, i will say.

jenny even made me take a "birthday portrait" to end the evening...too lame, too lame. ;)
congrats j+b!

craft night

last night i went to craft night, hosted by jordan of oh happy day {whose blog i'm sure you read, and if not, get on it!}.

it was really inspiring to hang out with so many talented women, and interesting that everyone was working on different things - knitting, embroidery, decoupage, jewelry making, quilting, stamp-making...the list goes on. paired with some amazing food and good conversation, it was so much fun.

i'll share my finish projects later this week...i was pretty pleased!

back to the clouds.

we've discussed that famous mark twain quote about how terribly cold san francisco summers are. this year it's been amazing to use my weekends to escape to tahoe and see my wonderful parents {and soak in the sun!}.

we'll see how this week goes...maybe a ray of sunshine {or two} in the city, pretty please?

susie cakes.

i am sad to report that one of my san francisco favorites, miette, closed down its chestnut st. location a couple months ago.

a new shop has popped up in its place, and i was a little skeptical. who is this susie cakes, and can their cupcakes compete with miette's legendary macaroons? i decided to try it out/do a little photoshoot. i couldn't decide on one dessert {naturally}, so here are my thoughts on two.

whoopie pie: ridiculous. soft cookies, rich vanilla buttercream inside, and basically enough sugar to make a family of 5 hyper. i took 2 bites after the photos and i am pretty sure it wired me for about 8 hours.

red velvet cupcake: recommended by the shop, and they were right. cream cheese frosting, perfectly textured cupcake...just heavenly.

while susie cakes is not a favorite {yet}, i would recommend this if you're needing something sweet in the marina. but i shall continue to mourn the miette macaroons...

renegade crafts, year 2.

on saturday i went to the renegade craft fair at fort mason {remember last year's gems?}. it is almost overwhelming how many amazing things there are...sort of like etsy exploded all over a pavilion hall and you get to wander around and marvel at peoples' ingenuity.

this year i walked away with...

a lovely locket:
a really cute square scarf:
and a million business cards of amazing shops that had things i adored:
