make your own: finger knit scarf

time for a super easy winter craft: the finger-knit scarf! i'd noticed a few pins about how to make these, and then my sister's friend sarah also posted a picture of her creation, so i knew i had to try. i picked up a few different kinds of yarn on sale at a craft store, with my favorite being this multicolored kind i used for this scarf. love the ombre look! i put a mid-process photo up on instagram and got a couple emails asking what the heck i was doing, so just read on to learn!

for this one i used 54 yards of yarn and it took about an hour and a half {just pop in a holiday movie and go to town!}. if you want to learn how to do it, check out the quick video i posted below.

what yarn did you use for this? I made one myself but it looks much thinner and loose.

Thank you for sharing your pictures and video! I neither knit nor crochet, but after watching your tutorial, I was able to make my own finger knitted scarf from a skein of yarn I had bought a while ago in the hopes of making some kind of scarf from it. It was so easy, and looks lovely.

Are you able to wash a scarf like this? I made one for a friend and she got queso dip on it and was wondering if she could wash it. Does it depend on the type of yarn you use?

I just found your video and watched while following along. In less than 10 minutes, I made a huge length of a fluffy, pink scarf for one of my daughters for Christmas! THANK YOU! This is an amazing way to hand make a gift without endless amounts of time (which many of us just don't have). Thanks again, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! ;o)

I love the tutorial. I am making my scarf and it is looking more holey and loose than your pictures displayed. I used an ordinary yarn-nothing full or thick. Just wondering if this was the culprit-just looking for some guidance. Thanks a bunch.

I love that you don't need any needles, you can do it with your fingers :) Ta da :)
