lauren & i spent a lazy sunday afternoon in golden gate park, lounging on a blanket and listening to free music at alice's summerthing concert.

one republic, matt nathanson, michelle branch {fave!} and more...for free! aside from sunburning my knees {who knows}, it was the perfect kickoff for warmer weather and a gorgeous way to spend a weekend afternoon.

Midnight in Paris...and simple style.

oh my.
my new favorite movie - ever?
a love story to paris...
a love story to the 1920s...
a love story to art history...
a love story to weirdos like me who wish we could time travel to the past. :)

i found myself leaning forward, smiling at the screen like a crazy person. the music was perfect, the casting was perfect, and the whole movie was such a joy. {and even though rachel mcadams plays a pretty awful lady, my girl crush stays strong.}

besides the sheer wonder of the film, i was completely drawn to the styling of all the eras shown in the movie. rachel mcadams was my favorite - her character, inez, wears simple outfits consisting of shirt dresses, wedges, belts, and gorgeous bags. minimal accessories, but such effortless style. it's very california-meets-paris.

i played with my new fave site, polyvore, to recreate my favorite look. for all of our sanity, i made a "budget" version in addition to my dream version. ;) click the image to get details on each piece!
left outfit - $551
right  outfit - $168

trip of a lifetime.

i can't believe it's been a year since misha and i embarked on our trip of a lifetime! i'll spend the day mourning that i'm in a cubicle and NOT on kamari beach in santorini. to relive the joy:

my poor glasses had a little accident:

not only did i break the arm off, i broke it so that you couldn't repair it with another screw. nice. after 2 weeks of perching them on my nose delicately and pretending like they weren't one-armed {no shame, ladies & gents!}, i decided to help my friends' embarrassment levels go back down to normal and buy some new ones.

semi-hipstery, no? haha. i have 2 huge revelations for you guys.

1. i have to wear these, so my glasses don't have to be lame. sounds obvious, right? since i only wear these to drive, see a movie, or like, read a menu at togo's, i had forced myself to suffer through glasses that i didn't think were actually demonstrative of my personality. if i'm going to willingly wear an accessory multiple times per day, why not make it something slightly more exciting than small brown frames? these are big, black, and have gold stars on them. i dunno, why not?

2. zenni optical. have you heard of it? you can get prescription glasses for $6.95. i am not even kidding you. email your optometrist, have them send over your current prescription, and order here! i bought this pair, AND a pair of prescription sunglasses {which are a whole 'nother revelation, people} for $21. they have a million frame types and styles, so i'm sure you can find something. i may even order another pair to have a good backup. it took about 10 days after i ordered to arrive.

my frames can be found here.

i'm loving them so far!

first tahoe trip of the season.

i spent the weekend waking up to this:
kinda makes my city apartment seem a little anticlimactic. ;)

favorite summer drink.

i am seriously obsessed with iced coffee on a warm summer day. when i'm feeling adventurous, my faves are an iced nonfat caramel macchiato from starbucks {heaven}, or an iced nonfat raspberry mocha from peets {i am dying just thinking about the deliciousness}.

last week i found 2 gorgeous recipes to cold-brew your own coffee and make these drinks at home, which i'm definitely going to try! the pioneer woman's is here {for both regular & vietnamese style}, and food coma blog's emma guest posted her raspberry version here.

do you have a favorite iced coffee? or another summer drink i should try?

photo journey : half moon bay

last weekend i journeyed about an hour south of san francisco for a photoshoot in san jose. on my way home i decided to take myself on a little afternoon date through half moon bay and up highway 1 back to the city. top down, a few oldies soundtracks {stand by me & dirty dancing are faves}, and a gorgeous drive made for a perfectly serene afternoon. the only time i regretted being alone for this little adventure was missing all the photo opps of the sweet fruit stands & flower marts on the windy road to the beach, since i had to keep my hands on the wheel and all. ;)

half moon bay is like an alternate universe. there's a perpetual layer of fog, and everything feels like you've stepped back in time. vintage cars, antique stores, beach cottages, bright colors. it's magic! everyone is so friendly, teenage boys on bikes, waving and saying "hello miss" -levels of friendly...what?! oh, and a pet llama in the front yard.

hope you enjoy the photos - and have a lovely weekend!

that scene up there is a little crazy. also not pictured: my ipad. i have a problem. ANYWAY. i recently got a fancy new mac {middle}, and still have my old baby {left} and my work guy {right} to keep her company. i'm on the hunt for a new laptop sleeve - any suggestions of where to look?

clockwise from top left:
ted baker - $90
kena kai - $51
knomo - $60
kena kai - $96

seabiscuit style.

on sunday we ventured to the horseraces! it was dollar day at golden gate fields, which means $1 entry, $1 beers, $1 hotdogs...basically you can enjoy the day {and some horse bets} for less than $10! helps that it was absolutely stunning out.
we watched the first few races trackside {astute observation: jockeys are TEENY TINY}, and then found ourselves a fancy little box upstairs to take in the rest.
lauren won! {see above for the proof}.
tainted love also happened to be playing a trackside concert. what goes better with big hats and horses than 80s music?
{...probably a lot of things, but it was still fun.}
even though i didn't win a single race, i loved the sunshine and of course, all the big hats!
