a tahoe neighborhood walk

the other day my sis, brother-in-law and i took a long walk around the tahoe neighborhood. it was so peaceful and quiet under the HUGE blanket of snow - up to our thighs in some parts! from the geese to the coyotes {eek} there has been plenty of wildlife to see among the pretty houses. and now it's a toss-up for me on when the keys are the most beautiful, summer or winter. i think i'm turning into a snow girl!

merry christmas!

a glimpse of our wonderful christmas eve in lake tahoe. and guess what...santa came! {and my 5-year-old niece gave me the one direction CD, which was the soundtrack to our morning - yessss!}

merry christmas, and enjoy your day with family & friends! xo

snowballs galore

the family that plays together stays together, right? {what about the family that throws snowballs into each other faces?}

this was the first time the girls have seen snow, and they loved it. almost as much as auntie. ;)

a majorly white christmas

when i prayed for a white christmas, i didn't anticipate a weekend of NONSTOP snow! it makes it slightly difficult to take clear photos outside {especially with my constant giggling with absolute glee}, but i am pretty much in heaven!

we've done some decorating {see andy the antlers above}, some game nights + baileys {our family tradition} and lots of warming up by the fire. tomorrow's post will feature some epic snowball fight photos!

this morning...

we made it to tahoe after some serious drama yesterday...flat tires, bad weather, getting trapped in a parking garage {...yeah}.

today is a full on SNOW STORM! yes! i am so excited. so many more photos to come!

my favorite christmas present

is it weird that i already know my favorite christmas gift of 2012? it happened in october, and it was absolutely magical.

when my beloved giants made the world series, cody and i had talked about getting tickets to a game, but they were SO outrageously expensive {in the thousands!}. the day of Game 1 we nervously chatted about verlander vs. zito over IM at work, as we watched ticket prices on stubhub drop and drop.

with a 5pm start time, we started getting serious about going around 3pm. making the promise that this could be our christmas gift to each other, we pulled the trigger around 4:10 on a paid of awesome club level seats that were the cheapest we could imagine. that's when it turned into "ohhhh crap, i have to zoom over the bay bridge and get to sf!"

one $75 parking pass later {YIKES} and we were in! my psychotic expression in the first picture says it all. after panda's first home run, we looked at each other and said "totally worth it."

and then he hit another home run.

and then another.

omg. this was the game of my lifetime. i can't believe we were there! and a few short days later, they clinched it in detroit. hallelujah {and merry christmas in october!}

holiday linkfest

as i'm spending my days frantically trying to finish work by friday, i thought i'd share a few of my favorite holiday links:

1. do you use spotify? allow me to share my pop christmas mix. warning: lots of bieber.
2. i'm completely in LOVE with chelsea's holiday cards. so unique and fun.
3. i check all things lovely every day for her stunning holiday party/NYE outfit boards. i would wear every single one!
4. when i thought i couldn't love emily henderson any more, she did a navy/pink/metallic christmas theme in her house. it's gorgeous.
5. natalie struck a nostalgic cord in me when she posted this tutorial for making cinnamon ornaments. i so remember these from girl scouts.
6. i am strangely fascinated by this pioneer woman recipe. do i have 3 hours to devote to jello-making? probs not, but i liked reading about it.

snow style

for the first time in a LONG time, i will be spending some serious time in the snow! {i guess london snow didn't really was beautiful but melted into sludgy brown when it hit the pavement...ew.}

with my parents staring at this gorgeous view from their window, the next couple weeks are going to be chilly for our fam! here are my favorite christmas-y cold weather picks from all my online browsing.

family photoshoot : cutting down the christmas tree!

this shoot wins the award for the most unintentional comedy EVER during a session. i met this sweet family at a christmas tree farm to document them cutting down their tree. we kept canceling the shoot due to rain, so we were SO excited when the clouds broke and we could squeeze it in before the sun set.

well you know what happens after a week of rain? MUD! so after little brooke plopped in the mud {in her cute white outfit, of course}, i managed to slip and bail down a hill, coating my entire lower half, and then poor mom & dad just got sprinkled with it trying to help everyone. super, super glamorous (and totally worth it for such cute christmas photos). :)

bridal tea!

san francisco is typically the most gorgeous in the fall, and it was no exception for misha's bridal tea. stina hosted in her family's ahhhmazing home, with stunning views from the roof deck out onto the palace of fine arts and golden gate bridge.

all the details were perfect, the food to die for, and the champagne {and tea, naturally} flowing! not to mention the games...hilarious.

can't wait for the wedding -- in costa rica! -- in february.

12 days of blogging

on the first day of christmas, kelly gave to me...a blog that is not aban-doned!

whoopsie on this inadvertently long blog break! i have just been hoarding so many fun things this fall that i should really get back to sharing. i thought doing 12 days of christmas could be fun, {& motivating} leading up to the big day.

so on this day, your partridge in a pear tree, i just have to share the illustrations from my christmas cards:

artist james keniston sells his gorgeous illustrations of houses in san francisco, and this year did a special series for christmas. aren't they sweet? i love how unique these are, and it makes me smile to think of my friends across the country seeing my little sf christmas. check out his other work here.

oh giants!

just a quick note to inform you that my heart didn't COMPLETELY stop during this week's improbable-historical-grandslammy-crazytown-comeback NLDS victory. ;) go giants!!

sweet baby alice

i'm obsessed with this babe! al is my pseudo-niece {her mama is one of my bffs!} who i got to meet/snuggle for the first time recently, just as she had hit her 2-month mark. we had to do a little photoshoot with my favorite tool, the boppy, before i headed back to san francisco. just cannot get enough of that sweet face!

long weekends

i've had the joy of spending the past 2 weekends enjoying the tahoe sunshine and the lake with some of my besties! nothing better than a good boat ride, bbq, and a glass of wine {...or 2 or 3}. labor day was especially amazing, since we took the boat out at night to float in the middle of the lake under the fireworks show. and this year we smartened up and managed to sneak out of town before getting caught in that 7+ hour line of cars snaking down the mountain. genius. ;)

c+b san francisco wedding!

my amazing friends catherine + brian were married a couple weekends ago in gorgeous cavallo point. we had such an amazing weekend, from their welcome dinner at the foot of the golden gate to learning to tie a bow tie in the car on the way...and of course, all the way to the whiskey bar and dance floor on the wedding night! forgive the grainy iphone photos, please. :)

i wore the pink dress that you guys helped me pick out - but don't fret, i kept the black and am planning to shorten it as a cocktail dress!

and my personal highlight was watching jose villa in action - he is amazing! i said a quick hello and he couldn't have been sweeter. photography idol status. ;)

birthday fun

well, i celebrated my birthday about 12 times over the past couple weeks - haha! i am so lucky to have such wonderful friends and fam. from the parents taking me to a crazy gorgeous dinner at the top of harrah's in lake tahoe {plus making me my fave confetti cake} to my fave taco tuesday at nick's with the gang, it was a lovely way to usher in another year of my 20's! and somehow bieber became a major player - from my nieces' musical card to cody's gift of a humongous j.bieb poster. how did this happen?? maybe next year i'll get harry styles gifts...considering he loves cougars, right? ;)

the great gatsby festival.

last time i was up in lake tahoe, we went to check out the Gatsby Festival at mount tallac. it's quite the famous annual tahoe tradition that involves music, a vintage car competition, vendors selling antique clothing/jewelry/knick knacks, and of course a speakeasy {stupid prohibition!}. there are several old waterfront tahoe estates where the festival is held, so it was fun imagining the amazing summers all those san franciscans had back in the early 1900's! the pantyhose and insane hats probably made it slightly less comfortable than what i experience today. ;)

i just love the vintage clothes and cars! i sort of stalked the couple above since they were just so cute with their authentic outfits.

san francisco hike: lands end & the sutro baths

so this is what happens when you try to take a "sunset hike" in san francisco: FOG! a gorgeous, sunny day turned into a freezing evening when the girls and i met after work for a hike.

we started at the legion of honor and worked our way through the presidio to the westernmost part of san francisco, over the pacific ocean. after winding your way through the forest and some lovely flower-filled meadows, you can hike down a massive amount of stairs to the ruins of the old sutro baths. despite the chilly temps, we had an amazing time - and those ruins looked extra creepy!

and don't worry - we rewarded our efforts with margaritas and mexican food immediately after...just to replenish all those calories. ;)

help me decide: black tie look

i am so excited to attend a fabulous black tie wedding in a few weeks, but i need to enlist your help! after quietly dreading the dress shopping - it's been so long since i've needed a gown {hello prom/sorority formals} - i managed to luck out and find two gorgeous dresses.

option 1 is a flowy chiffon ralph lauren halter gown in a gorgeous coral-pink color. perfect for a summer wedding, don't you think? i'm envisioning styling it with gold and floral accessories, with long wavy hair.

option 2 is a black lacy number with the prettiest back ever! it feels so flattering, and after googling 50+ etiquette guides, i'm fairly comfortable that black is ok to wear to such a formal wedding {and if not, tell me!}. i like the idea of brightening it up with jewel tones, and sweeping back the hair to show off the back.

so what do you think? tell me in the comments!

london 2012.

{vintage olympics prints from berlin, london, paris}

do you guys love the summer olympics as much as i do? in 2008 my poor roommate had to deal with me taking up all the space on our dvr with michael phelps races and nastia liukin beam performances. i'm thrilled to watch the opening ceremonies tonight, root for the dream team, and especially because it's in my favorite city! when i worked in london, i shared a building with the olympic committee, so the excitement has been building for years.

here are some fun links to get you in the spirit:

red grape & balsamic salad

i have to share my current favorite lunch - this delicious red grape salad. it combines all my fave things - crisp grapes, ripe avocado, and gorgonzola. yum!

the only annoying part of this super-easy prep is slicing every. single. grape. as tedious as it is, this does make a huge difference - it lets all the yummy balsamic soak in.

after you cut your grapes and avocado, gently mix in the walnuts and gorgonzola. i use my hands to fold it all in so the avocado doesn't turn to mush. in a small bowl, mix the liquids with a good squeeze of honey, and drizzle over the top.

this serves 4-6 people {it's pretty rich, so small servings are great!}, but it stores really well in the fridge so i just scoop some out into tupperware each day to bring for lunch. next time i want to try it on french bread slices, sort of like a summery bruschetta. so good!

heaven at tahoe.

as you guys well know by now, lake tahoe is one of my favorite places on earth! i have been lucky enough to spend about 2 weeks there so far this summer, and the best times were with my family and sweet nieces. it's just breathtakingly gorgeous and SO relaxing {except when you fall into the freezing lake because you ride the tube with crazies...}

before you put this face on a milk carton...

oh hi there! remember me? that person who used to write on this blog?

sorry for the total disappearing act. i've had a somewhat hectic few months, culminating in a change of jobs, some super relaxing weeks in tahoe, and generally becoming human again.

starting around february, my old job became cuh-razy. long story short: i hate the feeling of not being able to get it all done. it stresses me out, makes me work until midnight, and made my daily 3 hours in the car commuting into...torture.
while i was moping around being miserable at a conference {in vegas, when it was 108 degrees - super duper fun to be in a biz casual blazer, guys}, i got an email that i had been offered a new opportunity for a company i am in love with, in a role that offers me a chance to learn and grow, and that happened to be a mere 9 miles away. hallelujah!

i spent part of june in tahoe helping my parents finish their house remodel {as much as they loved the previous owners' pink carpet and metallic paisley wallpaper...}, started the new job, and then was lucky enough to squeeze in another planned vacay to tahoe with the whole fam, including my fave baby girl nieces! plenty of photos to come.

all that being said: thanks for sticking around while i took some time away...happy to be back again! xo.

bay area hike: the dipsea trail & tourist club

i'm so excited to tell you guys about the BEST hike some of my girls and i did over memorial day weekend! we started in mill valley {part of marin county} and hiked up the dipsea trail. it's basically a stairmaster in a gorgeous forest...i have never thought my legs might actually fall off before, but around the 4th set of incredibly vertical steps, i was dying.

once you level out and hit the ridge, it has breathtaking view of the valley and a really easy path to follow around the hills. AND - best part - there's a hidden surprise in muir woods! the tourist club is a german-victorian style house in the middle of the forest, where they serve beer and keep a stash of board games for their hiker guests. there is a HUGE sundeck and you can bring in a picnic and relax while your calf muscles calm down. :)

you can see how crowded it was {aka, ridiculously fun!} - totally worth those stairs!

hello handsome! {baby photoshoot: brady}

look at this darling little face! can you stand it?

this was such a fun photoshoot - brady's dad, dan, decided to surprise his wife taylor with some photos for mother's day. the planning was kind of hilarious {how can he "borrow the baby" without her getting suspicious?}. we decided to wander around the marina in san francisco and visit all the places that were special when taylor and dan first met, fell in love, and moved in together. we did everything from crissy field to the palace of fine arts {as shown above} and even their old apartment building. it was such a special, personal shoot, and i'm so glad that taylor loved it too. these are just a handful of my favorites, and that brady is a charmer!

baby you're a firework

you guys - i'm blogging! sorry for my multi-week absence. it has been sort of a crazyland around here with a hectic work schedule {...and some fun activities, who are we kidding, i'm not a total monster}. as i sort through tons of fun photos from hikes, adventures in marin, adorable baby photoshoots, and so on, i just had to share this amazing video from saturday's celebration of the golden gate bridge. it was the 75th anniversary of its opening {aka, its "birthday"}, so everyone gathered on their roofs and crissy field to watch the most absurd fireworks show i have EVER seen. it truly puts the 4th of july to shame. enjoy!

derby day!

i hosted a little derby party on saturday, and my main reaction is: who knew mint juleps were SO GOOD?! we had a fun lunch of pasta salad, potato salad, veggies, chips, and of course...PIES! and in addition to the mint juleps, sweet tea vodka + lemonade made for a refreshing treat.
we made our way over to a local bar right before the main race to get our bets in {cody won $50 - woo}, and then the day pretty much turned into cinco de mayo. not planning to share those mustachio'd photos. ;)

hope you're having a wonderful week!

weekend happiness!

i have been cherishing the gorgeous weekend we've had lately, especially since work has been SO hectic! last weekend i got to celebrate my dear julia's birthday {my former roomie, for those long-time readers!} with a wine tasting trip to healdsburg. it was about 90 degrees and SUCH a fun day!

and lest i forget the return of giants season {aka, the time of my life} - we went to 2 games on opening weekend, and i am going to 2 more this weekend! i think at&t park is my absolute favorite place to be in san francisco.

on top of that we've had so many great brunches, visitors, and pretty weather here {don't let that striped umbrella fool you, they just liked the matchy-matchy look}, i just can't get enough!
so on that note, happy friday, and enjoy this glorious weekend!

a fashion blogger's dream room

i have some insanely talented friends that i'm going to brag about for a quick moment, so hope you'll indulge me. ;) my friend catherine is an AMAZING interior designer and recently redid a room in the san francisco decorator's showcase home. her inspiration? a fashion blogger's dream office. how STUNNING is this? and props to my dear tracy who styles the heck out of these gorgeous spaces.

you can view all the photos of this fashion blogger's office on the blog of my OTHER talented friend bess friday. bess blows my mind with her fashion and interior photography.

hope you enjoy this thursday inspiration!

kentucky derby party inspiration

i love hosting theme parties, and the next one on deck is for the kentucky derby! my brainstorming so far:
  • decor: pennants, roses in trophy vases, horseshoes;
  • food: pies & small bites;
  • drinks: mint juleps, of course, and sweet tea vodka + lemonade;
  • attire: big hats! i'm setting up a hat decorating station for the ladies. any suggestions for the guys? bow tie making?
if you have any brilliant ideas for this, let me know in the comments!!

happy friday! :)
