cancun photos, part III : isla mujeres

i went to mexico like a month ago, and yet here i am, still reveling in photos/forcing you to look at them. it helps that it's been pouring rain here in sf for what seems like 2 weeks. last post, promise!

my parents and i took a quick day trip {via ferry} out to isla mujeres, which means "island of the maidens" - in mayan times, it was the home of the fertility goddess, and then it was later where the pirates of the carribbean {real ones} would drop off their lady loves and kiddos while they pillaged and plundered ships. awesome.

the island is only about 5 miles long, so transportation is done via golf cart or vespas. i got stuck at the back of the golf cart, feet dangling off as my dad raced around like it was the autopia ride at disneyland. precious cargo on board, father, jeez! despite me freaking out initially, it ended up being pretty fun.

we ended up stopping at this gorgeous beach front restaurant for mojitos, and that was a definite highlight. right after we headed out to the south point of the island, where iguanas sun themselves on the rocks - they were too funny.

our last stop was past mayan ruins and beach front mansions into the cute town, where a bucket of coronas is $5 {amazing!} and there are some cute shopping stalls. it was a super relaxing, fun day!

springtime blues.

forever 21 is killin it with their inexpensive spring accessories. i'm definitely seeing some kate spade inspiration there, which makes me {and my wallet} very happy!

cancun photos, part II : playa del carmen

our resort was right on the water and kind of in the middle of the jungle, which was amazing and serene.  one day we decided to do a little excursion into playa del carmen, in the more touristy part of cancun with the little shopping stalls and restaurants. it was fun (and the shopping - especially for jewelry - was great!), but HOT. the beer i had with lunch may have been the best thing i've ever tasted!

the sugar skulls were my favorite souvenir that i brought back for the girls at work - so colorful and cute!

cancun: a photo explosion!

at the beginning of this month, i joined my fam for a super-relaxing week in cancun! isn't the resort beautiful? it was my first experience with the ridiculous world of "all inclusive", where pina coladas are shoved in your hand all day, every meal starts with appetizers and ends with desserts (note the plural), and it's generally a life of decadence! i miss waking up, eating an amazing breakfast, and wandering out to a cabana on the beach (or a swim-up bar...ha)!

it was also so much fun to hang out with the fam, read some good books, and snuggle my nieces. being without internet isn't so bad after all. :)
later this week i'll post a few more photos from our trips to playa and isla mujeres - it was a blast!

the hunger games world premiere.

{photos via the hunger games facebook page}
have you guys read the hunger games? i was obsessed with it when i read it. i'd reserve conference rooms at lunch and go hide away to devour the trilogy- i think it took me a little over a week for all 3 books.

excitingly enough, i also get to be involved with the movies in a professional capacity {hello fun job}, so i was thrilled to be invited to the world premiere in LA on monday night. while i've gotten to do some pretty cool things because of my career path, i'm sure that this was my all-time favorite.

the movie was AMAZING. it totally delivered. my favorite parts were:
  • seeing the costumes during the parade of tributes in the capitol;
  • the moment right before you see the arena and cornucopia - i swear, the anticipation was INSANE just feeling everyone leaning forward and holding their breath to see what it looked like;
  • getting to see a lot more detail about seneca and the gamemakers, as well as their super cool, futuristic, mission-control style room where the control the games. honestly amazing.
from a fangirl perspective, we also loved getting to see all the celebrities come in. miranda lambert, the other 2 pistol annies, and blake shelton were in front of us - i MAY have blurted out "i love you" to her while we were in the ladies room. whoops. miley caused the biggest scene with her entourage coming in to the theater. the little tributes were so cute too - they just seem so young! prior to the movie, the producer, director, and 3 main actors talked to the crowd. jennifer {katniss} tripped on her dress and the audience gasped dramatically/hilariously. and josh {peeta} is teeny-tiny, like elijah wood/hobbit style.

we had to check our cameras/phones at the door of the nokia theatre, but i managed to snap a few before & after. clockwise: my outfit {really wanted to wear some live flames a la katniss...didn't happen}; the entrance to the afterparty with flaming mockingjays suspended in the air; wolfgang puck catering; the huge capitol-esque tree displays throughout the event.
and the other coolest thing, the invitation to the afterparty, which was a hologram of the mockingjay, katniss, and "may the odds be ever in your favor."
anyway, it was a pretty amazing night, and i'm actually excited to see the movie again when it releases to the public. if you're a fan, you will not be disappointed!

fun things.

i'm here! after a week of glorious mexico vacation time followed by a week of "omigod i hate coming back to work after a vacation", i am officially alive again.

i will post some drool-worthy cancun photos this week, but in the meantime, a few fun things i've been wanting to post about.
  • i dove into to the world of blog design for my sweet friend elease, and here is the result! isn't it lovely? i love all of the adorable photos of elease and her hubs. it was really fun {and nerve-wracking} brainstorming ideas, color palettes, and designing various options. i think i want to do this again sometime. ;)
  • i'm SO thrilled to be assisting an amazing sf wedding photographer, vero suh, this summer. she is a master!
  • tonight i get to do maybe the most exciting thing of 2012: attend The Hunger Games world premiere in LA. on a scale of 1-10, my excitement is at a 42. ;) while i can't take photos there, i'm sure there will be much more to come on this!
hope you all are having a fabulous march! feels good to be back.
